Role Overview
The Role
We are seeking someone with steel thin slab casting industry experience with a deep knowledge and exposure to casting with a proven track record of operating, quality and safety results looking to advance their career to the next tier of the corporate ladder and assume the leadership role of Superintendent, Thin Slab Casting (Technology). The successful incumbent will support technical improvements in Direct Strip Production Complex Thin Slab Caster Operations to ensure that operating systems and processes are in place to safely and efficiently meet Algoma’s short, mid and long-term quality and production objectives at minimum cost, within environmental guidelines and regulations.
Key Deliverables
- Support cross-functional projects with a diverse group of employees and remote teams to improve casting operating results.
- Ensure casting operating policies and procedures are well defined, documented and integrated into processes and meet internal control guidelines.
- Support the implementation of best practices for casting ensuring consistency with Algoma’s operating standards and practices.
- Support the implementation and application of metrics and reporting to optimize productivity.
- Support the implementation of new projects while coordinating cross-functional projects with cross-functional groups of employees and remote teams.
- Provide project inputs and recommendations.
- Ensure that product samplings are undertaken to meet quality requirements
- Support the development and apply KPI’s (productivity, cost, and other metrics) to casting operations. Ensure KPI’s are properly defined, monitored and managed.
- Provide operating and process expertise and guidance to casting team to assist in the design, planning and building of improvements to Ironmaking processes and practices.
- Provide and apply process knowledge to identify production constraints. Support the team in identifying solutions.
- Develop process studies to support casting production optimization and the implementation of best practices.
- Arrange for training to Operators in the casting area with an objective of improving their knowledge & shop-floor skills.
- Ensure that casting policies and procedures are well defined, documented and integrated into processes and meet internal control and Algoma standards.
- Provide direction to operations team for process control and stable casting operation.
- Provide guidance to the Casting, Metallurgical and Steelmaking team in decisions related to incoming steel specifications.
- Maintain effective cross-functional communications to optimize asset utilization, process flow and resource allocation within the division and across the organization.
Core Competencies and Skills Required
- A 4 year Technical degree (preferably Engineering) and 5 – 10 years of relevant experiential exposure in a senior casting leadership role, with at least 5 years of relevant experience in thin casting.
- A reputation for competence, strong work ethics, interpersonal skills to support excellent team work and a high energy approach to all assignments.
- A demonstrated ability to drive change, manage complex projects and technology upgrades and hold people accountable for results.
- Strong organizational, mentoring and development skills
- Possess keen analytical and problem solving skills, including advanced computer skills.
Incentives
- Variable Compensation Incentive Program (VCIP): Up to 20% of base salary
- Long-Term Incentive Payment Program (LTIP): Up to 15% of base salary
