Salary Range: $76,330.80 – $87,068.80
Position Summary
Algoma Public Health (APH) is seeking a certified Public Health Inspector (PHI) to work with our team. As a Public Health Inspector working for APH, you will have a diverse portfolio of work that contributes to the reduction of; communicable diseases, health hazards, and health inequities within Algoma communities.
Reporting to the Manager of Environmental Health, the PHI promotes and protects individual and community health by educating and enforcing pertinent provincial Acts and Regulations, municipal by-laws, and agency policies. The legislation includes but is not limited to; the Health Protection and Promotion Act, the Healthy Menu Choices Act, the Skin Cancer Prevention Act, the Ontario Building Code Act, the Provincial Offences Act, and the Smoke-Free Ontario Act.
Qualifications
Ability, Experience, and Skills for this position include (but not limited to):
- Post-secondary bachelor’s degree in environmental science, health science, applied science, or equivalent.
- Certificate in or working towards a Certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada) from the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors. Preferences are shown to a candidate who holds certification as an inspector under Part 8- Sewage Systems, of the Ontario Building Code Act.
- Demonstrated knowledge of community resources relevant to the area of environmental health.
- Previous experience working as a Public Health Inspector at a public health unit is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong interest in professional development and self-learning.
- Strong time management and project management skills.
- Ability to work effectively independently or as part of a team.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be reliable and have a good attendance record.
- Ability to work outside regular business hours, including weekends and evenings, as required.
- Advanced oral and written proficiency in English is essential, proficiency in both official languages is considered an asset.
- Requires a valid “G” Ontario Driver’s License and use of a reliable vehicle.
