Ontario operates adult correctional institutions and probation and parole offices for offenders serving jail sentences of less than two years and community supervision for up to three years. This includes the supervision of adult offenders under provincial parole supervision, as well as providing programs and services designed to assist in offender rehabilitation.
Corrections staff take pride in making a difference in the lives of those in custody and under supervision. We help keep communities safe while safeguarding the human rights of individuals placed in the correctional system. The starting salary for a Probation & Parole officer is $1182.40 per week, with salary progression according to the OPSEU Collective Agreement. Further salary progression is available upon successful completion of the Probation & Parole Officer training program and two consecutive years in the role.

Probation and Parole Officers play an important role in helping to ensure public safety by managing offenders who are serving sentences in the community. Our candidates are diverse to reflect unique needs of communities across the province.
Potential candidates must meet the following educational requirements or experience:
- Hold a degree from a recognized and accredited university, in one of the following disciplines: social work, psychology, sociology, and criminology; or
- Have a degree in any field and a total of more than five years of experience in:
- A social services or correctional organization; or
- In a role or roles that formally assesses human behaviour and the application of structured interventions to support the changing of human behaviour
Some candidates may also require the following abilities:
- Have advanced oral and written French skills (for designated bilingual positions)
- Have the flexibility to travel regularly to remote locations by air or to stay overnight (for select locations)
