Reporting to the Manager of Allied Health, the successful candidate will provide assessment, program planning, treatment, follow-up and program evaluation to both inpatients and outpatients following standards set by the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.

DUTIES:

  1. Provide assessment, program planning, treatment, follow-up and program evaluation to clients in the hospital and community.
  2. Screen patients and referrals for priority of intervention and facilitate referrals to appropriate health care and/or community programs.
  3. Assess patients’ physical, cognitive and functional abilities; plan and carry out individually designed treatment plans to maintain, improve or restore physical, cognitive and functional abilities and prevent dysfunction.
  4. Collaborate with patients and their families/care givers in developing treatment goals and encourage family participation in the development, implementation and ongoing modification of the treatment plan.
  5. Assign components of treatment to, and supervise the practice of, Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTAs).
  6. Communicate regularly with the interdisciplinary care team, including physicians and other healthcare professionals.
  7. Work within the scope of practice and standards laid out by the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario and relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
  8. Act as a role model, mentor, and/or preceptor for learners, new grads, and new hires from various disciplines.
  9. Stay up to date on best practices, research and legislative requirements.
  10. Support various quality improvement initiatives.
  11. Be flexible and accommodating to support evolving workload demands and priorities.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate of an accredited university program in occupational therapy.
  • Current registration with, or eligible for registration with, The College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO).
  • Must maintain current Professional Portfolio and participate in audit process as required by COTO.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, an ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Be patient-focused
  • Flexibility, adaptability, an ability to stay organized and prioritize effectively
  • Extensive knowledge of community resources.
  • Demonstrated behaviour consistent with the hospital’s Standards of Performance and iCcare values.
