Primary Duties and Accountabilities include but are not limited to:
- Diagnose, maintain and effect repairs on a variety of municipal equipment that includes light trucks, heavy trucks and heavy construction equipment.
- Included but not limited to the diagnose and repair of:
- Electrical systems
- Engines and engine management systems
- Vehicle ventilation and air-conditioning systems
- Transmissions, clutches, driveshaft differential and drive axle assemblies
- Fuel delivery systems
- Suspension systems and frame, steering and braking systems, tires, wheels, rims and hubs
- Hydraulic systems; including snowplow equipment and attachments
- Construction equipment; assemble, disassemble, and modify components and systems
- Small engine equipment.
- Truck sander systems
- Calibrate and test truck sanding systems
- Inspect and operate oxyacetylene torches
- Observe City Health and Safety Policy and Procedures, adhere strictly to rules regarding health and safety, including the donning of proper PPE.
- Evenings, weekends, shift work, as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Secondary School Diploma
- Certificate of Qualification – Truck and Coach Technician – 310T
- Certificate of Qualification – Automotive Service Technician – 310S
- Certificate of Qualification – Heavy Equipment Mechanic – 421A, is an asset
- Technical Standards and Safety Authority – Multi Certificate Holder ICE-P and ICE-NG, is an asset
- Ozone Depletion Prevention (ODP) Certificate
- Valid Class ‘DZ’ Ontario Driver’s License; with an excellent driving record.
- Five years proven experience as mechanic.
- Computer literacy and experience with Worktec systems, is an asset
- Excellent knowledge of mechanical, electrical and electronic components of various vehicles
- Working knowledge of vehicle diagnostic systems and methods
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently, independently and as a team member in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to read, write and communicate to perform the duties of the position.
- Organize time effectively to perform the duties of the position.
➢ Truck and Coach Technician Certificate 310T may be considered; with 310S in progress and the ability to achieve 310S within required time frame.
