Grant Writer

Salary Range: $70,882 – $84,370

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Grant Writer will lead the application to all relevant grant opportunities benefiting the social service system in the District of Sault Ste Marie. The Grant writer will be accountable for facilitating the research, development, review, and editing of proposals, discovering opportunities that align with the DSSMSSAB’s mission.

Key duties and responsibilities include:

  • Understand the history, structure, objectives, programs and financial needs of the organization and system.
  • Develop and write compelling grant proposals and applications to secure funding for DSSMSSAB, the system and/or specific projects
  • Research, identify, and prioritize potential funding opportunities from government agencies, foundations, and other grant-making organizations
  • Ensure all grant applications and supporting documents are submitted on time and in accordance with grantors’ guidelines
  • Maintain a calendar of submissions and reporting deadlines and provide regular updates to the leadership team on grant activities, regularly reporting to the DSSMSSAB leadership team
  • Assist with maintaining relationships with current funders and stakeholders through effective communication
  • Assemble all necessary supporting materials and documents including budget reports, outcome measurements, success stories, etc. to submit to funders
  • Liaise and collate information from DSSMSSAB and partner leadership teams to identify potential grant proposals and grant funding needs for programs
  • Develop, collate and report on program and grant-related performance metrics
  • Respond to internal and external queries on drafted and submitted proposals.
  • Handles confidential financial records and grant materials with great discretion
  • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of areas involved in identifying and soliciting grants; may collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders
  • Perform other related duties as required.

The successful candidate will be a motivated and detail-oriented individual with strong communication skills to join our team. The successful candidate will also have a solid understanding of the Microsoft Office environment, expertise in the proposal submission and fundraising process, and the ability to research and identify new funding opportunities. They will excel at managing multiple tasks, ensuring attention to detail, and maintaining confidentiality. The ideal candidate will be a team player with excellent organizational skills, able to effectively tell the organization’s story and align funding efforts with its mission.

Additional qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in grant writing, preferably in a government setting or relevant field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • The ability to communicate in both official languages is considered an asset.

Work Hours:

35 hour work-week, 8:30am -4:30pm
