Primary Accountabilities
Lead/assist in the commissioning and ramp up of the EAF Facility.
- Coordinate with Project team to sequentially commission equipment in a safe and efficient manner
- Ensure pre-job hazard assessment, Safety indoctrination of entire team is completed prior to commencing the project work.
- Lead Operator groups in testing and verifying correct functions and sequencing of equipment.
- Assist in fault identification and resolution
- Supervise the operation of the furnaces and associated equipment to meet contractual performance criteria.
- Assist in collecting and verifying performance data
Train Area FLS and Shift FLS in the safe and effective management of an EAF operation.
- Working closely with shift crew to ensure the operation of the plant
- Mentor operations, maintenance and technical managers by sharing breath of experience and knowledge
- Train personnel in all aspects of EAF Steelmaking
Assist Area FLS’s in developing Job Safe Practices, Standard Operating Procedures and Lock Out Procedures for the operation and maintenance of EAF facility.
- Utilizing expertise and supplied documentation to build practices for the operation and maintenance of the equipment.
- Assist in the Development of Lock Out Procedures to ensure equipment is at ‘Zero Energy Status’ prior to work being performed.
Identify and implement improvement opportunities.
– Through analysis of on-shift operations, provide insight and opportunities for improvement.
– Develop practices for enhancing Safety, productivity and quality of the operation.
– Utilizing prior expertise and industry contacts to advise on raw material, scrap alloy and consumable sourcing, optimization and use.
Core Competencies and Skills Required
- Minimum 5 years as a Senior EAF Operator required. 5 years EAF Shift Supervisor experience will be considered an asset.
- Minimum grade 12 diploma. University degree in STEM preferred.
- In-depth practical knowledge of the operation of an EAF Facility
- Prior experience commissioning an EAF preferred
- Strong computer skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
