ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:
McDougall Energy is seeking a highly analytical and technically skilled IT professional to fulfill the position of Network Engineer. Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, this position is responsible for supporting and advancing the company’s enterprise network across data centers, branch offices, and field locations.
This position plays a critical role in the implementation of secure, scalable infrastructure solutions. The successful candidate will provide hands-on configuration and operational support, act as an escalation point for network-related issues, and contribute to project delivery and long-term planning. They will also back up the Senior Systems Administrator when required and respond to after-hours alerts related to network security or availability. The Network Engineer will be responsible for:
- Designing and managing enterprise routing and IPsec VPN tunnels to ensure branch connectivity and failover readiness
- Applying Zero Trust principles and network segmentation for device-level access enforcement
- Supporting wireless network standardization across locations through centralized design and deployment
- Maintaining network documentation, asset inventories, and configuration backup processes
- Leading infrastructure refresh efforts at spoke sites, including switch, firewall, and LTE installation
- Serving as an escalation point for network troubleshooting, mentoring team members in issue resolution
- Administering telecom services, including VoIP systems and role-based entitlements
- Supporting audit, compliance, and PCI initiatives, including documentation and remediation
- Collaborating with internal teams and vendors on network deployments and rural ISP evaluations
- Responding to after-hours alerts and participating in incident triage and escalation
ABOUT YOU:
- College Diploma or University Degree in an IT-related field such as Computer and Information Sciences, Networking, or Information Security
- Proven experience designing and implementing dynamic routing, IPsec VPN tunnels, and segmented enterprise networks
- Strong technical understanding of routing protocols, VLANs, ACLs, IPAM, and WAN/LAN design in a multi-site environment
- Hands-on experience with switch and firewall deployment, including lifecycle management and configuration backups
- Familiarity with Zero Trust principles, network segmentation, and NAC enforcement strategies
- Ability to configure and integrate network alerts into centralized monitoring and SIEM platforms
- Experience standardizing wireless networks across distributed environments, including SSID/VLAN mapping and controller-based management
- Demonstrated ability to triage and respond to after-hours alerts and incidents related to routing, connectivity, or security
- Capacity to serve as an escalation point and coach team members through troubleshooting and issue resolution
- Experience coordinating with telecom providers for fibre, LTE, and VoIP deployments
- Practical experience building and maintaining a virtual lab network to simulate configuration changes, test integrations, or perform R&D
- Obtained a recognized certification in networking, wireless, or information security within the last five years
- Knowledge of compliance frameworks such as PCI and experience supporting remediation activities
- Valid ‘G’ class driver’s license
- Ability to travel to remote sites and perform scheduled work outside of regular business hours when required
