Reporting to the General Manager, Health & Safety & Emergency Services, this role is accountable for the development, implementation and maintenance of the Emergency Services Department
Accountabilities
- Directs team members regarding the health and safety requirements to promote a safe workplace and ensures the team carries out responsibilities in compliance with the provisions of the governing Occupational Health & Safety legislation and corporate health and safety policies and procedures
- Oversee and directs security personnel, emergency response personnel and liaise with external emergency support services.
- Develops, implements and maintains security and emergency response policies and procedures that are compliant with regulatory requirements, to mitigate risk to the business and provide direction to other departments on these matters.
- Manage the preparedness and training of the emergency response team for different scenarios that could arise in day-to-day operations and construction activities.
- Develop and execute an annual plan for advancing service models. Coach and provide direction to direct reports in achieving annual plan objectives. Engages employees to maximize their effectiveness in their respective roles to deliver a competent workforce.
- Support budget preparation and cost monitoring to meet or exceed business expectations.
- Develop a relationship with the necessary community partners to familiarize Algoma Steel with the community policies, procedures and standards and to familiarize the community support services with Algoma Steel’s programs.
- Support the health & safety partners in scene management, investigation, loss containment and prevention strategies.
Qualifications
- Must have a College or University degree in Emergency Reponses Management, Fire Protection, criminal justice or medical response
- Minimum of 10 year of emergency response experience (EMT, Fire or Police)
- Experience in industrial establishments preferred but not required
- Licenced / bonded security guard or private investigators (or ability to obtain)
- Driver’s License (G Class)
- Working knowledge and understanding of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable Regulations
- Understanding of MARSEC legislation
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
- Strong incident management, investigation and reporting skills
- Accurate and succinct report writing
