The Rural Agri-Innovation Network (RAIN) is seeking a qualified individual for coordinating development activities, events, and workshops in association with Lake Superior Living Labs Network (LSLLN). The LSLLN focuses collective efforts towards increasing capacity for regenerative social-ecological systems across the Lake Superior watershed. It is a research partnership between Universities and organizations located at three different Hubs (Sault Ste. Marie, Thunder Bay and Duluth). The Sault Ste. Marie Hub of LSLLN is pursuing the establishment of an indoor growing facility on-campus as well as an expansion of gardens for horticulture crops. The intern would be integral in supporting the development of indoor growing research trials as well as supporting other horticulture research activities through RAIN. The individual hired would be employed with the Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre, under the direction of David Thompson, Manager of the Rural Agri-Innovation Network (RAIN), an organizational partner in the Sault Ste. Marie Hub.


· Coordination of a Sustainability Summit in Algoma

· Coordination of Workshops in Algoma related to Horticulture, Maple Syrup, Food Safety and Permaculture

· Coordination of Algoma University student activities related to food security on campus

· Coordination of horticultural research activities

· Assisting the Rural Agri-Innovation Network (RAIN) team with activities related to market development, food distribution and social media awareness


  • University or college graduate who has graduated within the last three years from an accredited college or university. The candidate must be a graduate of a post-secondary degree or diploma program. The position will be a first full-time employment in the candidate’s field of study
  • Preference to candidates that have completed or are completing a Diploma or Degree in a related field (Agriculture, Environmental Sciences, Geography)
  • Experience using social media scheduling software, experience with planning events, attention to detail and proven ability to multitask
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Computer proficiency with MS Office
