Salary: $1,134.33 – $1,360.74 Per Week*

Do you possess technical skills in the areas of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology and equipment? If so, consider joining the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry team as a GIS Database Technician.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:

  • Provide technical expertise in the development, maintenance and utilization of natural resources databases
  • Carry out a variety of data, technical and administrative duties, including field and office data collection projects, support of hardware and equipment maintenance
  • Provide customer service to internal and external clients

How do I qualify?

Mandatory requirement:

  • You have a valid driver’s license to travel to the field to collect data.

Information Technology Knowledge:

  • You have a demonstrated ability to use Geographic Information System and Global Positioning System technologies and peripheral equipment (digitizers, printers, plotters, scanners and tape drives).
  • You have sound working knowledge of a variety of computer operating systems and applications related to resource management.
  • You have knowledge of standards and operating practices for information gathering (i.e. data collection, inventory techniques, data preparation and data entry/digitizing)

Natural Resources Knowledge:

  • You have knowledge and understanding of ecological principles and practices, resource and information management programs, and can interpret relevant acts and legislation including Occupational Health and Safety Act.

General Skills:

  • You have demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve technical problems.
  • You have planning and coordinating skills to organize and coordinate human and equipment resources.
  • You have well developed interpersonal and communication skills to communicate and share information with staff and to prepare specialized reports, spatial analysis and queries.
