Primary Accountabilities

  • Provide accurate and timely indirect tax processing to support Algoma Steel Inc. as required
  • Provide accurate and timely income tax provisions, and supporting documentation for tax return
  • Provide leadership in the area of Accounts Payable

Functional Accountabilities

     •  Provide leadership to the Accounts Payable group

  • Ensure that clerks are providing value to the Accounts Payable and finance areas
  • Provide ongoing guidance

•   Analysis and reporting for HST/ QST/ withholding tax/ municipal tax/ gas tax rebate

•   Provide monthly tax provision for Algoma Steel Inc. and related entities

•   Provide supporting documentation and assist with annual tax return

•   Be the contact for CRA in respect of indirect and income taxation

Direct Process Accountabilities

•   Timely and accurate monthly analysis and reporting for HST/ QST/ and withholding taxes

•   Yearly analysis and reporting of prior years’ withholding taxes and issuance of T4A-NR and NR4’s

•   Timely and accurate quarterly reporting of gas tax rebate

•   Provide monthly tax provision for Algoma Steel Inc.

•   Provide supporting documentation for annual tax return

•   Timely and accurate reporting for all municipal taxes including on time payments and monthly accrual determination

•   Yearly filing of demolition and vacancy rebates for municipal taxes

•   Yearly determination of properties to claim request for reconsideration for on their value and subsequent filing

•   Provide leadership to the Accounts Payable group

•   Ensure timely payment of Accounts Payable Invoices

•   Monthly preparation and filing of various accounts payable accruals

•   Work with other departments where required to assist in the development and proper functioning of all applications, processes and internal controls affecting accounts payable

•   Primary contact for CRA/RQ in respect of indirect tax and income tax matters

Qualifications / Requirements

  • An accounting designation or mininum 10 years’ related exprience is required
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a corporate tax or public accounting corporate tax environment is preferred
  • Supervisory or managerial experience is required
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook) required
  • Experience with SAP an asset
  • Strong organizational skills are required in order to prioritize and complete multi-tasks within restrictive time frames and meet deadlines
  • Good interpersonal skills and experience working in a team atmosphere are required
  • Strong communication skills are required to interact with various internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills are required along with the ability to identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement
