At The Indigenous Friendship Centre, we are passionate about the cause and the people we serve in our community through variousprograms and services offered. Finance Officer is one of the key forces behind both, and we are currently seeking an organized, self-motivated and financially minded professional who is passionate about the impact in the field, has a strong financial accounting andbudget management skillset and is natural at developing trusted working relationships. The selected candidate must have the abilityto adapt to new technology through specific accounting software, while maintaining a high accuracy in preparing and enteringfinancial information. Ensuring a strong understanding of confidentiality concerning financial and employee information is critical inthis role, in addition to maintaining good report with existing vendors that the Centre works with regularly, to support the needs ofthe community we serve.

    POSITION SUMMARY:
    The purpose of the Finance Officer is to oversee the financial transactions of the organization while ensuringcompany compliance andeffective and efficient accounting related office operations. The Finance Officer is an integral part of the Core team, consisting of theExecutive Director, Administrative Services Manager, Human Resources Coordinator and Receptionist/Administrative Assistant and isresponsible for maintaining accounts payable, accounts receivable, bookkeeping, bank reconciliations and expense planning forinternal and external meetings, events and items required for the Centre.
    Indigenous people who possess the qualifications, competence, professional capabilities, previous work experience and ability andwillingness to meet the defined needs, goals and policies of the IFCSSM will be given first preference.
    RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Receive and verify invoices and requisitions for goods and services related to all programs and Centre costs
  • Appropriately code expenses under various program budgets
  • Ensure invoices and requisitions are supported by appropriate documentation; ie. purchase orders, receipts, e-mail approvals, etc.
  • Prepare and track collections of invoices and requisitions for data entry
  • Ensure up-keep of data entry of invoices and requisitions for payments
  • Post invoices and process payments by cheque or direct deposit
  • Prepare vendor and client cheques for mailing
  • Obtain respective signatures for reports, contracts, cheques, etc.
  • Maintain listing of accounts payable
  • Maintain updated vendor files
  • Review, make arrangements and verify travel claims, mileage and meal reimbursements + utility and tax receipts and payments
  • Scan and save all documents to the Finance Drive for paperless filing and ensure digital or electronic signatures are on all approvals
  • Maintain, track and monitor credit card usage and charges
  • Assist in the preparation for, and participate in the annual audit process providing information, account analysis, listing, etc.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets, financial reports and cash flow projections
  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly/monthly program reports and financial statements required
    Required Skills
    EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
  • Post-secondary, diploma and/or industry courses relevant to accounting, or finance
  • Minimum 2-years related experience working in the financial/accounting sector
  • Knowledge and/or experience working in a non-profit organization
  • Continued education in Indigenous studies and/or knowledge of Ojibway/Anishinaabe culture and traditions is an asset
  • Or the equivalent combination of education and experience
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, bookkeeping, maintaining general ledgers, basic accounting principles,procedures, and their application
  • Self-motivation with the ability to work with minimal supervision in a team-oriented setting
  • Ability to maintain a high-level of accuracy in preparing and entering financial information
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality concerning financial and employee information
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Sage 50 Quantum Accounting
  • Ability to guide and lead employees to ensure appropriate financial processes are being used
  • Good judgment, adaptability and willingness to learn;
  • Very effective organizational and planning skills
    Other Requirements
  • Proof of valid Covid-19 Vaccination (Dose 1 & Dose 2)
  • Current and valid Vulnerable Sector Check, as per the Criminal Record Review Act
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Must provide a clear Driver’s Abstract
  • Must have or is willing to obtain First Aid/CPR Training Certification
  • Ability to work flexible hours (occasional evenings and weekends, may be required)
  • Occasional travel for networking and/or training purposes
