Aawan Maskwa is a majority indigenous co-venture with a local community development consulting group, Possibilities Group. Aawan Maskwa provides advisory services to Missanabie Cree First Nation, its related business ventures and projects and other Indigenous groups. We assist community leaders and their teams to define, evaluate, plan, finance, and build community projects and enterprises. Who are we looking for?
Aawan Maskwa/Possibilities Group is seeking an experienced Project Manager to plan and manage a number of construction/development projects in various locations in Northern Ontario. The successful candidate must possess the knowledge, experience and confidence to engage and professionally interact with the design professionals, consultants, contractors and our Indigenous partners. Primary responsibilities will be planning, managing, executing and tracking progress of our construction and development projects. This position also consists of participation in the conceptual development of a construction project and overseeing its organization, scheduling and implementation.

Key Responsibilities
• Function as the main point-of-contact between contractors, consultants, clients and owner
• Oversee, manage, and direct construction projects from beginning to end;
• Create, manage and report on budget and cost estimates;
• Review and approve invoices;
• Create RFPs, solicit bidders, provide analysis and recommendations and manage the tender process;
• Assist in planning construction operations;
• Prepare, manage and report on the project schedule and deliverables;
• Manage and mitigate risks;
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and building codes;
• Negotiate with external vendors and prepare contract agreements;
• Collaborate with contractors, engineers, architects and key members of the project team;
• Conduct site checks to monitor progress and quality standards.
• Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture or related field and/or relevant experience managing large projects;
• Professional Project Manager designation preferred or working towards;
• Reside in the Sault Ste. Marie area and be legally entitled to work in Canada;
• 5-7 years working as Project Manager (Construction or related field);
• Extensive previous work experience managing budgets for construction projects;
• Excellent knowledge of construction materials and equipment;

• Conflict resolution and management skills;
• Comfortable reading and understandings blueprints and drawings;
• High degree of familiarity with contract documents, terms and conditions;
• Familiar with construction and project management software programs;
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
• Previous experience in a leadership role with strong and proven leadership skills;
• Knowledge of MS Office Suite;
• Project Management Professional certification or equivalent would be considered an asset;
• Experience working with Indigenous groups and/or on-reserve would be considered an asset.
